Bad code is a mainstay of programming. The better you are at programming, the less bad code you are likely to write, but not a single programmer alive is innocent of polluting the greater world codebase with bad coding. As a community, we should be striving towards creating more good code than bad code.
As a way to highlight this, and at the same time secure a bit of funding for a few open-source projects, a new concept has been born – the Bad code offset.
Brought to you by the the creators of The Daily WTF and Stackoverflow, the aim of the project is to instill a greater sense of awareness of how you code, and eliminate bad code.
Bad code offsets are based on carbon footprint offsets, but instead of paying for the amount of carbon you are releasing into the atmosphere, you are paying to offset the amount of bad code you are releasing to the world.
